Flowering Plants Around Lake Lagunitas, Azalea Hill and a Trail In Between

This site is intended to help identify flowering plants that hikers may come across in a small area of Mount Tamalpais through the course of a year.

Use the seasonal links below as a rough guide or start at Winter to Spring and scroll as far as you need. More plants will be added during the next few seasons so you may not find here every plant you come across.

These pages cover basicly the Sky Oaks area of the MMWD watershed.

The majority of the plants described can be found on three hikes. The first is the simple walk around Lake Lagunitas, always going counterclockwise so it is easy to determine the first, second and third bridges. The second is what we call the Alpine Loop hike that starts at the Lagunitas parking lot and proceeds up to the Rocky Ridge FR via either the old Stocking Trail or Berry trail. Once on Rocky Ridge continue west on the Stocking trail until you come upon Hidden Lake and the Kent Trail just beyond. Follow the Kent trail down to Alpine and hang a right back towards Bon Tempe Dam, the Shadyside Trail and ultimately Lagunitas. The third is the short hike up to and around Azalea Hill.
